Mobile

The Sonera mobile app for Android transcribes locally on your phone or in the cloud, with AI editing and dictation in any app.

Requirements

  • Android 8.0 or later
  • Internet connection for cloud features — local transcription works offline
  • A Sonera account (free)

Dictating

  1. Open the Sonera app
  2. Tap the large microphone button at the bottom
  3. Speak clearly — the waveform shows it is recording
  4. Tap again to stop, or it will stop automatically after silence
  5. Your transcription appears in the text area

Local Whisper on your phone

Just like on desktop, your phone can transcribe fully locally — free, offline, and without an API key. Pick local Whisper in settings and the model downloads to your phone (tiny through medium, depending on how much memory you want to use).

AI Editing

After transcription, use the AI bar below the text to give voice or text commands. You can also create custom prompt profiles for full control over how the AI processes your text.

Dictate in other apps

Enable the dictation bubble in settings to get a floating button on top of other apps. Tap it, speak, and the text is typed straight into the field you're in — in any app.

Command mode — "Sonera, ..."

Say "Sonera, ..." at the start of a dictation to give an instruction instead of text — e.g., "Sonera, add milk to the list". Works both in the app and in other apps via the dictation bubble. Command mode is opt-in, never runs in password fields, and you can block apps where it shouldn't be used.

Personal style & style profiles

Calibrate how you write in three contexts — chat, email, and notes — via the style wizard in settings. The AI rewrites dictated text in your style, and in command mode the right profile is picked from what you ask for ("Sonera, write an email ..."). Profiles sync across your devices.

File transcription

Open the files tab to transcribe audio and video files. You get clean text with paragraphs and metadata — and can AI-edit the result afterwards.

History

All cloud transcriptions are saved to your history. Tap any entry to view, copy, or delete it. History syncs across your desktop and mobile devices.

Settings

Access settings from the bottom navigation bar:

  • API Keys — Add your Groq/OpenAI keys (BYOK plan)
  • Language — Set transcription language or use auto-detect
  • AI Model — Choose your preferred transcription provider
