Choose a provider

Groq
Fastest transcription, and works for AI editing too — one key covers everything. Generous free tier.
OpenAI
Best quality. Most proven model. Pay-per-use.
Anthropic
For AI editing only (Claude). Not for transcription.
Google
For AI editing only (Gemini). Not for transcription.
Recommendation: a single Groq key covers both transcription and AI editing — start there.

Create an account
Sign up at your chosen provider's website and navigate to the API section.

Generate an API key
Create a new API key in the provider's dashboard. Copy it — you'll need it in the next step.
Never share your API key. Treat it like a password.

Paste into Sonera
Desktop: Settings → turn on Advanced mode → API Keys
Mobile: Settings → turn on Advanced mode → API Keys
Web: Account → API Keys — syncs automatically to all your devices
Saving API keys requires BYOK or Premium. Keys are encrypted and synced securely across your devices.

Test it
Press your dictation hotkey (desktop) or the microphone button (mobile) and say something. If you see your transcription, you're all set!
Groq's free tier is enough for most users.
