Getting Started

Welcome to Sonera — voice dictation for desktop and mobile. This guide will get you up and running in minutes.

Choose your path

Sonera works in two modes:

• Local (Free) — desktop app with built-in Whisper AI. No account, no API key, completely offline.
• Cloud (BYOK / Premium) — faster transcription, AI editing, and cross-device sync. Requires an account.

Desktop Quick Start

1. Download the Windows installer from the homepage
2. Run the installer and launch Sonera from the system tray
3. Press your dictation hotkey to start recording, press again to stop
4. Your transcription is pasted into the active window automatically

Mobile Quick Start

1. Install Sonera from Google Play
2. Create a free account or log in
3. Tap the microphone button to start dictating
4. Tap again to stop and see your transcription

Cloud Features

To use cloud transcription and AI editing, you need either the BYOK plan ($5 one-time) or Premium subscription. With BYOK, you use your own API keys from providers like Groq or OpenAI. See the API Key Setup Guide for step-by-step instructions.
